Very interesting. Any other parallels, or were they more an amalgam of different fringe religions?

JW type cult in Designated Survivor
by Mickey mouse indid anyone else catch episode 10 of season 2 of designated survivor on netflix?
there was a group portrayed that were clearly meant to be jws; the mother was objecting to a blood transfusion for her baby.. the funny part was the debate amongst the white house staff as to whether they could be classified as a cult.
i found it interesting that they didn't go as far as to name the group as jws..

Hidden message in current public watchtower
by Saltheart Foamfollower inthe current public edition of the watchtower - 2018 issue 1 - is entirely on one theme - is the bible relevant today.
about half of the magazine is on 3 articles on how the bible can be practical.
they are "avoid problems" "resolve difficulties" and "cope successfully".

2018 RC ... and 2017 AGM
by neat blue dog inon another post of mine someone replied with a twitter link showing these stills from the next movie to be shown at 2018's rc, about jonah.
not only is it very early for any leaks to be coming from the convention, but the images appear to be taken off of another screen, which leads me to believe someone behind the scenes leaked this against explicit directions.. also .
where's the agm video leak by now?

Excellent point. They need to delay it somehow. This time they'll just blame it on God's mercy.

Stealing From The Worldwide Work Fund.
by Charles Gillette inall the money paid out by the watchtower to the child abuse law suits comes from the worldwide work fund or the contributions from the monies given for the kingdom hall real estate.
so,when we were actively involved donating funds for this purpose, and the watchtower used those funds for purposes other than the worldwide work are they not guilty of stealing funds that were donated for jehovah's kingdom.
can anything legal be done about this?

P.S. regarding your avatar:
Is that because those of us who are PIMO are "caught in a trap"? 😉

It falls under legally acceptable. They even read a letter to all congregations that said a specific fund was in place to pay for use in any situation in which the congregation incurrs "liability". Of course they downplayed it like it only referred to accidents and falls, and never mentioned child abuse.

Thank you for elaborating. I'm still not convinced, but it's food for thought and a good exercise regardless ☺

"ah yes Dad, do you mean those times when Jehovah made those mistakes and errors?"
by stuckinarut2 inso...while chatting with my ultra "spiritual elder" father on the phone this afternoon, i couldn't resist using that line!.
i had sent him that video of the recent convention showing brothers and sisters dancing to the "kingdom song" and waving their illuminated phones and arms in the air like some sort of revival church concert.
(perhaps someone can post that link to that thread again here?).

The music sounds more like a '90s talk show theme. Listen again, you'll see 😅

Ok, here's my thoughts:
I think verses 36 onward CAN be applied to Christ's generation, and logically should, because they immediately follow without any change or introduction. He says no one knows the 'day or hour', not the year or decade. Also later in verse 44 he says to those listening, alive during that generation, to prove THEMSELVES ready, so he was obviously still talking about the same time period.
